A day before Valentine’s Day this year, the Xollin Animal Shelter in the Mexican state of Michoacan received a rather strange visitor. A pit bull was left by its former owner outside the gates of the animal shelter with a note. The note narrated why the pit bull needs to be taken care of by the animal shelter.
In a Facebook post, the Xollin Animal Shelter shared to its followers the story of the pit bull they later named Rene. According to the post, a 12-year-old boy named Andres left the dog outside the shelter. The reason for this is that the pit bull received the brunt of Andres’ father fury. Andres said that his father would often hit the dog with no apparent reason.
This prompted the young boy to take action and bring the pooch to a safe place, which is the animal shelter. Andres also said in the letter that his dad plans to sell the pooch to someone who will use the dog to earn money through dogfighting. Andres does not want this to happen to Rene because the dog deserves better treatment.
Since he cannot answer back to his father, Andres thought it wise to leave the dog to the animal shelter. This way, the dog would be taken care of, and later on, be adopted by a loving family. In the same Facebook post, the animal shelter called on anyone who might be interested in taking the pooch for good.
The animal shelter did not expect that Rene’s story will receive attention. Soon enough, people contacted the animal shelter to inquire about the dog’s availability. According to a separate Facebook post, the shelter received at least 300 adoption applications for Rene. The volunteers are now sifting possible adopters for Rene. They said they want to make sure that Rene will be in safe hands.
