Lilac was a homeless dog who lived outside of an elementary school. Rescuers were called to rescue her and bring her in. She was caught and was given a proper bath.
Lilac has never had anyone pet or touch her. She was so afraid of the human touch. Living outside for so long, she had no trust in humans.
After bathing her and drying her up, she was just standing at the corner. It’s as if she wanted just to melt and become invisible. She was so afraid of people.
She just kept her head down and would not even look at people. She would immediately react if somebody were touching her because she has not been used to the human touch before.
For months, volunteers and rescuers worked with her. They have been very patient in letting her know that it is okay to trust humans. She was given love and attention.
After two months of working with her, a volunteer’s friend, who was working on Lilac, said she wanted a dog. Tanja came over to try and see Lilac for the first time.
Tanja calmly kneels in front of Lilac. Lilac suddenly approached Tanja and touched Tanja’s elbow with her nose. Everyone was surprised to see it.
It was the very first time that Lilac had touched somebody. With the rescuers and volunteers working with Lilac, she had never touched somebody before.
With Lilac’s gesture, it meant that she was okay with Tanja adopting her and being her human. Lilac was good around Tanja’s other dogs. They would always play and have fun.
Tanja would always go on hikes with her dogs and Lilac. Lilac seems to enjoy all of the activities. She has never looked happier, and she would always play with Tanja’s other dogs.
Now together with her most favorite human, Lilac is living life to the fullest.
