There’s nothing wrong with giving your dogs extra love and care. However, it becomes problematic when the attention given to the dogs is compromising time spent with other important people. Dog trainer Victoria Stilwell confronts a mother who recently paid more attention to her dogs than her kids.
Stacy is a busy mom. She has three kids who are teenagers. She also has six chihuahuas that she spends a lot of time with. Her kids tell Victoria that Stacy spends more time on her work and dogs than on them.
Victoria talks to Stacy about her current situation. The trainer suggests that she rethinks the way she’s spending her time. Stacy agreed with the trainer and gets emotional upon the realization that her children have been deprived of her attention.
Victoria not only trains dogs but also teaches owners as well. For Stacy’s case, the trainer took her out to see her friends. Meanwhile, the kids were left back in the house to care for the dogs. It was a way to show Stacy that she should take some time off from work and let her kids help her with the dogs.
When Stacy came back, she received a surprise from her children. They’ve prepared a meal, and they all had dinner together. Stacy liked the feeling of eating with her kids and expressed that she wanted it to be a daily occurrence.
The eldest son also formulated a contract. Every one of Stacy’s kids signed it. It was a contract stating how they would divide the tasks of caring for the dogs. They also agreed on punishment and a reward.
Victoria was happy to see the family getting along. The turn of events benefited the dogs and the family as a whole. After Victoria left the family, they were doing well when it comes to managing the chihuahuas. They also became closer as a family.
