Sometimes we find that special connection with a dog in the most unexpected places. Usually, it takes place in an animal shelter, and sometimes it happens in a pet store. But for the patrons of Fido’s Taphouse in Portland, Oregon, they may find that magical connection inside a bar.
Yes, you’ve read that right. Fido’s owner, Scott Parker, shared that he got the idea when he read about a coffee shop that fosters cats. The customers can play around with the cats, and if they decide to, they can even adopt them. Scott knew that dog lovers need a place like this, too.
So he opened up Fido’s Taphouse. It’s a bar, a restaurant, and a safe haven for rescue dogs and dog lovers alike. To maintain the hygiene standards of the establishment, the dogs are placed in their own room inside the bar. If the customers wish to play around with the dogs, they can simply enter that room to do so.
Some of the patrons even bring their own dogs, and Fido’s Taphouse encourages dog parents from the city to do the same as the foster dogs love having new playmates to goof around with. The establishment only takes in five foster dogs at a time, but their facilities can actually hold eight.
As advertised, customers of Fido’s Taphouse can also adopt the rescue dogs they are fostering. Although to ensure that the would-be dog parents are 100% sure about adopting a dog, they give them the adoption papers three days after they’ve made the decision.
This grace period was placed to ensure that the decision to adopt was made by the person, and not the alcohol. Overall, this place is a dream place for dog lovers and beer drinkers. It’s where you go to have a good time and meet new friends, both human and canine types.
