It’s easy for people to say things like, “I would do anything to save that dog.” But once people realize that it’s easier said than done, they usually back out. However, this 23-year-old man from Portland, Maine, is an exception. He literally gave everything he had to adopt the dog of his dreams.
Joel Carpenter was browsing Petfinder when he laid eyes on a beautiful Border collie mix named Sadie. Joel fell in love with her right away, and he wanted her to be his dog even if he had to give up all the money that he had. Some may think that this is crazy, but for dog lovers like us, this is just downright incredible.
All that Joel had in the bank was $300, and he spent it all on buying a one-way ticket from his hometown to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Sadie’s shelter was. He flew for five hours, and when he got there, his dream came true, Sadie became his dog, officially. However, there was still a big task ahead of them, and that is getting home.
It turned out that Joel wasn’t crazy after all, as he already thought of ways to help them survive on their journey back home. They walked most of the way, and they hitched rides from time to time. He also found people who were willing to help them out on CouchSurfing’s website, so they had free lodging.
He also raised some money by setting up a crowdfunding site. He was able to collect some money, but they needed more help. Joel’s plans weren’t foolproof, but he always had faith that everything would work out. Well, he was right. A producer for Inside Edition heard about Joel and Sadie, and she offered a helping hand.
She caught up with them in Detroit and bought a carrier for Sadie. She also paid for the pup to get her shots at a local vet. Joel was very grateful, but the blessings weren’t over yet. Inside Edition’s management also helped out by buying their plane tickets to fly them back to Portland. Because of faith, and some help along the way, Joel and Sadie are finally home.
