This poor Poodle had been homeless for quite some time and had started living on the roads of Los Angeles. He had become so accustomed to sleeping and searching for food in the streets. It didn’t seem to make any difference anymore where he ended up resting for the night.
Naturally, he was determined to keep his distance from people and to avoid any speeding vehicle. But there were times when people would see him doing wild things like crossing a bustling road. Fortunately, he’d never had an accident, or the rescue team wouldn’t have had any reason to come and fetch him.
It was a skill that he developed out of necessity. But one that he wouldn’t have had to learn if he hadn’t been left to fend for himself. Everyone who had seen him knew that it would be better to take him to a home where he would receive better care.
Everyone knew, but no one tried to contact the Hope For Paws organization on his behalf. Instead, the team saw him during one of his strolls, and they decided to rescue him. Eldad and his colleague Loreta was out for a drive when they spotted the homeless Poodle and immediately switched from Errand to full-on Rescue mode.
When the rescuers arrived, they saw the dog walking toward a parking lot that was practically empty. They decided to follow him, hoping that they could somehow corner him there. With a cheeseburger in hand, they started calling for the dog after they managed to reduce the distance between them.
But instead of coming to them, the dog went straight for the freeway. This was when the rescuers decided to split up so that they could improve their chances of securing the little guy. After following the dog separately for about a mile, they rejoined and found their target resting under a parked vehicle.
Escaping was going to be difficult for him, but he still tried. One of the rescuers had to take a considerable risk and grab him by the tail to prevent him from getting away. He struggled hard as they tried to fasten the leash around his neck, after which he began to calm down.
Finally, it was safe to touch him and carry him to their vehicle. And then it was time for them all to drive to the organization’s headquarters. Sailor was the name given to him.
