Here are 10 behaviours to look out for that proves it…
There’s a lot to love about dogs in general. Their snuggles, their loyalty and adoration of their owners. But what surpasses all these traits is the unconditional love (and theeir fair share of laughs) that canines bring into any loving home. They also make for the perfect exercise partner and are always up to ride shotgun in your vehicle, so you don’t have to drive on your own, even when you’re going somewhere boring like your local grocery store.
It’s not too hard to wonder how or why it’s so easy to love your pup, but how does your fur baby feel about you? You can often rely on your instincts, just like your dog would, because if your pup loves you, you’re going to feel it in your heart.
As for your pup, any one of these ten clues can give you the proof you’re looking for, if indeed you need it.
1 – Contact through their Eyes
When someone looks you directly in the eye, you can tell they are engaged and interested in what you have to say. Canines don’t perceive eye contact in the same way, in fact, some dogs might actually perceive it as a sign of aggression. However, they do stare at their favourite humans as a sign of love, respect and affection. When you don’t see the whites of your pups eyes, it means they’re very comfortable in your company.
2 – Wagging Tails
Convention tells us that a wagging tail is the mark of a content dog, and it’s also a sign of affection toward a human. Relaxed dogs can physically wag their tails more readily than one that is not. If a dog’s muscles are tense and their tail is still wagging, it probably means that your baby is either upset, annoyed or angry, so bare these signs in mind when you next see a wagging tail!
3 – Yawning Out Loud
Have you ever noticed that when you yawn in someone’s company, they yawn as well? The converse is also true. This is the same for dogs but with an unusual twist. Dogs are more likely to yawn simultaneously with their owners, than with another human stranger. A dog yawning in synchrony with its owner can be a sign of empathy, so when your dog yawns at the same time of you, it might be a sign of affection.
4 – Lifting Eyebrows
Whilst observing your dog’s tail frantically wagging, you should also observe his/her facial expressions! Dogs lift their eyebrows especially their left eyebrow when they see their owner. Those cute eyebrow wiggles are a sign that your fur baby is happy to see you!
5 – Cuddling Up To You
A solid warm cuddle (accompanied by a cold damp nose in your ear) is what a perfect dream is made of. If you are blessed to experience this show of affection on a regular basis, you should feel really good about your relationship with your pup. After all, they could choose to cuddle up and sleep anywhere, but they chose to be with you because of that special bond between you and your best friend.
6 – The Welcome
When was the last time you left you baby on his/her own and he/she “didn’t” lavish you with unconditional love and affection on your return home? If your answer is never, you are blessed with a wonderful relationship with your pup. If your pouch never welcomes you when you walk through the door, you have a problem that you need to fix as soon as possible.
7 – Sleeping Next To You
Wolves naturally sleep huddled with their pack members in their natural habitat. Domestic dogs are also pack animals at heart, and transfer and exchange their call of the wild instincts in the same way, had they been a member of a canine pack. Dogs express their feelings towards their favoured humans by cuddling up to them making all concerned comfortable and safe.
8 – Beaming Smile
Why do you smile at another human? It’s often because of the way that person makes you feel. Have you also noticed that it’s very difficult not to smile back at another person when they smile at you? It’s a show of mutual respect and possibly a show of affection. So, when you next smile at your dog, observe his/her relaxed smiling mouth, as this is a sign that he/she is happy and content and expressing his/her affection towards you.
9 – Leaning Against Your Body
Your fur baby may lean against you because he feels anxious, wants something, needs a cuddle, or is simply looking for extra comfort or security. Whatever the reason, leaning against you makes him/her feel safe and secure, and it’s another way of showing his love.
10 – Taking Your Clothes
It’s extremely annoying to have to chase your pup around the house and out into the back garden to recover a delicate piece of lingerie or one of your favourite pair of socks, but you might feel differently when you hear that this kind of theft is actually a gesture of adoration. Dogs experience the world through scent, so when they love you, they love your smell! To hang on to that smell, they may steal items of clothing or shoes to feel closer to you.
TIP: If your pup suffers from separation anxiety syndrome, when you are away from home, leave a piece of your clothing for them to cuddle up to whilst you’re are away…
