Rex is a senior, disabled Boxer who was discovered wandering the streets of California. He was suffering from degenerative myelopathy and lost full control of his hind legs.
Rex’s disability was the reason why he was included in his former shelter’s list of dogs to be euthanized. A rescue organization did not hesitate to pull Rex out of the high-kill pound he was in and rescued him as soon as they heard about Rex’s situation.
Rex ended up living in Holly Walthers’ home together with her other dog, Tyson. Tyson also has the same disability as Rex, and the pair bonded almost immediately after they met.
The two furry dogs got along so well and were inseparable, but Tyson sadly passed away. Rex became depressed because his only best friend was gone for good.
Fortunately, the universe had other plans for Rex when his fur mom took home a guinea pig with her. S’mores, the guinea pig, was also rescued from a horrible situation, and the two animals became best of friends as soon as they saw one another.
S’mores became Rex’s best friend, and the duo became were never seen without the other. The guinea pig always tags along with Rex and stays inside a basket that their fur mama attached in Rex’s wheelchair.
The guinea pig has never tried to leave the basket and makes sure that he is always accompanying his doggy best friend while they are outside for their usual morning and afternoon walks. Holly shared that the pair loves spending the day just cuddling one another at home.
Rex and S’mores love to eat their meals together and even going on hiking adventures. The two animals always make sure that they spend every hour of every day, and will not even sleep unless they are beside each other.
