With their high intelligence, dogs are fast learners. For dogs to learn a particular skill, repetition is the key. Just like humans, a dog learns a skill when their trainers keep repeating it to them. But this is not true to most dogs. It is not only in repetition that dogs learn. Sometimes they learn by observing how their owners do things.
A prime example of this is Hijinks, an adorable pooch, who learned to take care of her toy by observing her mom. Hijinks, according to Melissa Hicks, is a very talented pooch. For one, the pooch knows how to say “I love you” through barking. At the same time, the dog likewise knows how to do basic household chores.
But what impressed Hicks the most is when the pooch imitated how she takes care of her newly born baby, Mercury. When Mercury came to their life, Melissa’s primary concern is to raise the baby well. So, Melissa made it a point to put most of her attention to the baby. She would often rack the baby’s crib for the baby to fall asleep.
Little did she know that Hijinks would imitate this act. But if Melissa does this to her son, Hijinks uses the trick to her teddy bear. One day, Melissa caught the dog racking the teddy bear to sleep. Instead of laughing, Melissa was so amazed at how thoughtful the dog was. She said she never expected to see such a thing from Hijinks. Nonetheless, Melissa is proud of what a dog Hijinks became.
But more than this, Melissa is pleased that Hijinks is a good sister to Mercury. According to Melissa, the dog would often look after her baby brother whenever she does other stuff at home. This makes Melissa’s life all the more bearable because she has the dog as her counterpart.
