In 2017, a tiny and weak 2-legged boxer puppy named Nubby was born. Sadly, Nubby was outright rejected by his mother. Having so many puppy siblings, he wasn’t able to eat properly, causing him to be weak.
The vet that was looking after him thought he would not be able to make it. When Lou Bowlin learned about Nubby, she decided to rescue him. Lou and her husband Mark run a rescue organization called Warriors Educate About Rescue (WEAR), a Texas-based educational charity.
They took Nubby in and took turns on making him healthy. Admittedly for the Lou and Mark, Nubby was the most challenging dog they ever took care of. They researched how to take care of Nubby better.
Days passed by, and Nubby continuously fights to survive. At three weeks old, Nubby got pneumonia. He already has an abnormality in his esophagus, further complicating his health and causing him to be admitted to the ICU.
But Nubby is a fighter, he fought and became healthy again after weeks of being sick. His strong will to live to push his parents to try harder and do whatever it takes to help him. Lou and Mark refused to give up on Nubby.
They realized they love him so much, so they officially adopted Nubby. After weeks of recuperating, Nubby tried to stand on his feet. They let him go mobile on his own and got him a wheelchair, which he uses whenever he goes with Lou on her classes.
Sadly, another heartbreaking news arrived. Nubby got pancreatitis and lost all the weight he was starting to gain. But as the fighter he is, Nubby won against the illness again.
Nubby continues to grow and live happily with his family. When Mark and Lou foster new puppies, Nubby is sure to welcome and take care of them excitedly.
Nubby is such a fighter and refuses to give up. He is like a beacon that gives hope to people. Nubby may be different from other dogs, but his will to live, be happy and love his family is incomparable even to some people.
